This is a legacy post from the findaproperty.com blog which is now maintained as an archive within the Zoopla blog. Links have been preserved.
The day has finally arrived, I have three estate agents booked in to come this week. After what seems like a decade of cleaning, we are finally there. I feel that the meet the agent part will be a little bit like blind date as I will be speaking to them quite a bit over the next few months:
Estate Agent number 1: Local firm with four offices. They are very enthusiastic and I have high hopes that they will be swayed to lower the commission rate to sell my home with homemade cake and Earl Grey.
Estate Agent number 2: A national firm that recently flyered the flat and said that they had 19 people are willing to buy the property. They are also sending the sales director so I feel very important. I had a good chat with them about when the property should be marketed and they seemed interested to get moving as soon as possible.
Estate Agent number 3: A small local firm that has 2 offices. I wanted to try and use a more local agent but they didn’t sound very interested which is a shame. Maybe it is the thought of all that extra work just before Christmas, I hope that in the flesh their approach is better.
Fingers crossed that everything goes well. This is a huge step in the right direction and I feel that we are finally progressing. I am now off to the shops to buy half cooked breads so that I can stick them in the oven and make the flat smell delicious.

The “baked bread smell” trick doesn’t work, apparently, for buyers. But it does work for agents! What’s even better is the smell of freshly-made coffee. There is nothing better than a client who can rustle up a large cup of coffee for the agent while he lets the customers roam the garden after a visit.
